Millon said that it happens when you least expect it, so he reminds parents with two-month-old babies not to leave the little ones unattended always. He said that by turning your eyes away for just three seconds, your baby could fall on the floor.

He reminds parents that some young infants who cry hysterically, arch their backs, and fling their arms could cause them to roll over accidentally.

A board-certified physical therapist at Riley Children's Health of Indiana University, Sarah Johnson shared her advice to parents. She said that you should not be alarmed if your baby loses interest in rolling over. She explained that motor skills come and go before they become integrated into your little one's repertoire.

Preparing to roll

Babies use their upper body muscles to roll over. Johnson explained that since babies' heads are bigger than their bodies, it pushes their weight forward when they lay on their tummies. She noted that they have to develop enough strength in their necks and shoulders to move the weight backward.

Most babies roll from belly to back first because it is easier. Johnson said that babies need to develop enough strength in their flexors to roll from back to tummy. Flexors are called the muscles in front of their bodies.

How to help baby rollover

The best way to help your baby develop core strength is by having tummy time. First, you should learn what motivates your baby, whether it is your face or any toy she likes to look at. Johnson said that babies' minds are oriented to learn if they are interested in something.

If you notice your baby starting to push up, try to place her favorite toy above her head. You could also place it slightly outside of her field of vision to make her want to up or back.

Johnson also said that you may also gently pull to kind of show how it is done. She reminds parents to reward their babies or give lots of praise for a job well done. She also said that you may let your baby have tummy time on an inclined wedge pillow to alleviate a little bit of gravity. You may also place your little one on your chest and get the same benefits.
