A dad with five daughters was desperate to know if his sixth baby is already a boy. To confirm, he cut open wife's stomach.

The pregnant wife was left with severe injuries. 

The dad was arrested by the police due to the incident.

According to the parents of the wife, the dad did this horrible act because he badly wants to know if they are having a son.

The act was done last Saturday in Nekpur Village in India.

The wife is in critical health because of the incident.

The police inquiry

The dad with five daughters, who was only named as Pannalal, is now under police custody.

The police confirmed that an inquiry is already begun.

According to Superintendent Pravin Singh Chauhan, there is no clear motive yet as to why the dad did the crime. It is also unclear to the authorities on what was used to cut open wife's stomach.

According to a report from the New York Post, the relatives of the woman shared that the dad with five daughters was induced by a local priest that his wife was expecting another girl.

The brother of the pregnant wife said, "My brother-in-law often used to beat my sister for giving birth to five daughters. Our parents had intervened on several occasions."

The mom and baby's state

After the dispute, the neighbors of the family brought the victim to the hospital. She was eventually transferred to Bareilly Hospital.

According to reports, the pregnant wife is still in Bareilly Hospital and is in a critical state. 

There is still no news about the baby's health.

News outlets have stated that the mom was seven months pregnant.

The stigma towards baby girls in India

There are several reports about the stigma towards baby girls that still exists in certain parts of India. 

Some reports also disclosed that sex-selective abortions are also rampant in India because sons are preferred over daughters.

According to Newsgram, there are also events of female infanticide in India. This act refers to the intended killing of newborn baby girls. The report of Newsgram also said that this stigma towards baby girls in India is due to the opinion that a baby boy is above to a baby girl. The same article also shared that UNICEF released a report that says 50 million girls are missing in the Indian population.
