Fertility drugs

So, how to conceive twins with fertility drugs? Fertility drugs are medications that help in increasing fertility. These drugs work by boosting the number of eggs that a woman's ovaries produce. Meaning, if more eggs are being produced, it is more likely that more than one can be released and fertilized. If this occurs at the same time, this can cause fraternal twins. Based on the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, there are up to 30 percent twins or multiple pregnancies because of these fertility drugs. Just like other drugs and medications, there are also risks and side effects that go along with fertility drugs.

Your family history

In knowing how to conceive twins, you should also know your family's history. Know if you and your partner's family have a history of having fraternal or multiple pregnancies. This can increase your chances of having twins of your own. And if both the mother and father's side have fraternal twins, your odds of having your twins goes up even higher. That is because you are more likely to inherit the gene that makes them release more than one egg at a time. And to experts, if you are a woman and you are a fraternal twin yourself, you have 1 in 60 chances of having your twins. And for men who are fraternal twins themselves, they have 1 in 125 chances of being a father to twins.

Conceiving twins after 30

For women who are already mothers between the ages of 35 and 40, there is an even higher chance of you having twins. Women who are over 30, especially those in their late 30s, have a better chance of having twins. That is because they are more likely to release more than one egg during their ovulation compared to younger women.

Conceiving twins with supplements

Doctors suggest taking B vitamins before and during a woman's pregnancy to avoid defects. Some small studies are saying that folic acid, a B vitamin, may increase the chances of having twins. But, there are no large-scale studies to support and confirm this. On the other hand, if you are trying to get pregnant, taking this vitamin will help in protecting your baby's brain development.

Twins and multiple pregnancies are deemed higher risk compared to single pregnancies. And if you get pregnant with twins, you need to visit your doctor frequently so you can be checked closely. Also, keep in mind that good prenatal care can reduce your risk of complications.
