Mom and Daughter Are Both Pilots, Duo Makes History by Flying Together

A mom and daughter duo, Suzzy and Donna Garrett, are both pilots. The two make history by being the very first mother and daughter to fly a commercial plane together.

According to reports, it is not just the mother and daughter duo who are pilots in the family. Doug, Suzy's husband, and their other son, Mark, are also pilots.

Indeed, the family is sharing the same love for the sky.

Mother and daughter duo makes history.

Suzy is a captain at SkyWest Airlines. Her daughter, Donna, who is already 26 years old, was recently hired by the same airlines.

Because the two are now working at the same company, this paved way to history. Reports say that they were the very first mother and daughter duo who have flown a commercial plane.

The love for flying

According to Donna, it is her parents' love for flying that also led to her achieving her goal to become a pilot. Aside from Capt. Suzy, Donna's dad is also a pilot. In an article by DailyMail, Donna shared, "'I was exposed to aviation my whole life. I decided to fly because of my parents' passion and love for flying. They made it so much fun." Capt. Garrett, on the other hand, says that it is probably their love for the career that also brought their kids to the same path, "None of our kids were thinking about becoming pilots, but when you start looking at other careers that are out there, like sitting in an office, and then see how happy we are - it opened their eyes."

Working together

Since Donna was young, she saw a lot of what her parents did. She said that this became her inspiration. She said, "Experiencing my mom and dad's lifestyle was wonderful. It revealed to me the possibilities the industry offered."

The mom, Capt. Garrett said that working alongside her daughter is a fulfillment in itself, "I love it! I (really) love it. It's neat having your kid experience what you've gotten to experience."

Encouraging young girls

Aside from working alongside each other, the mother and daughter duo also sees their achievement as a possible way to inspire young girls and even women all over the world.

Capt. Garrett says she wants to be a role model for younger girls. Donna also wants to be an inspiration to other women who dream to be part of the aviation industry. She says that women should not limit themselves to what they can do.
