Resume Tips for Moms Returning To Work

1. List all your transferrable skills

Identify all the transferrable skills you have previously learned, such as volunteering or some hobbies you picked up. Look for skills, training, or any continuing education opportunities even in an unconventional setting.

Examine the educational web pages you've viewed, educational television shows you've watched, and news magazines you've read. Read business magazines and trade journals at the library or online if the ones you want aren't available without a subscription.

Before actually applying for various positions, ask yourself what direction you are going and what value could you add to the company. Doing so will help identify your skillset. It will even help you identify ways to improve them.

2. Be proud to be a mother

Do not be shy about taking control of your career. This includes hitting pause when you felt it was necessary. Keep in mind that there is no shame in stepping away from a paid job if you want to contribute significantly to your family's successes and endeavors.

3. Don't be too hard on yourself.

When you get hired, you will find yourself juggling career and family life. And if you find time to breathe and relax, you will be able to take control and find yourself breezing through your tasks, both at home and at work.

Always remember to be gentle with and keep taking care of yourself. You've done it before, so you'll be able to do it again, and with a little patience and persistence, you'll be able to find your next job in no time.
