Missing Elderly Woman With Alzheimer's Found by Toddler Playing Bubbles in the Backyard

A typical afternoon for toddler Ethan Moore and his mom, Brittany Moore, turned into a lifesaver for one family as the boy playing bubbles in their backyard in Georgia found a missing older woman with Alzheimer's.

Nina Lipscomb, 82, was reported missing on Tuesday, August 9. The local police in Coweta County in Senoia, along with several volunteers, conducted a search for her within a five-mile radius. Despite using helicopters and thermal technology, the search ended up with nothing.

The toddler's mom told KKTV that Ethan and their dog were chasing bubbles when something made her son stop and look. She asked him what he saw, and the boy said "feet," but Brittany could not see anything until she crouched to her son's eye level and found an elderly woman lying on the ground.

Brittany panicked and then called for 911. When the first responders arrived, they realized the woman was Lipscomb. She was alive and talking but still disoriented.

Nina Lipscomb was visiting town and wandered off

Karen Lipscomb, Nina's daughter, said the older woman was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's. She was visiting Coweta County, as she did every year, when she wandered off without Karen or her family realizing it.

The daughter said her mother's sister died recently, and they used to live in the area. She must have left their house because she had been looking for her sister. She was still wearing her pajamas when she took off early in the morning.

Nina's son, Thomas Lipscomb, told Fox 5 Atlanta that they received reports of people seeing her five or six miles away from home. Thomas lives in Virginia, but he drove to Georgia when he learned his mother was missing to help with the search. He figured someone likely gave his mother a ride and then dropped her off near her sister's home since they did not find her within the five-mile radius. 

The older woman was taken to the hospital for a medical assessment but was cleared for release. The Lipscomb family has been extremely grateful for the help extended by the community, but Karen said Ethan was the angel who God directed to find another angel. They will now be forever connected to the Moores. Karen believes Nina and Ethan will have a unique bond, especially since her mom loves children.

Brittany Moore turned down the reward

A reward was set up for finding Nina but Brittany turned this down. Instead, the mother said she and her husband will always tell Ethan about what happened to remind him of his impact on someone else's life.

On Monday, August 15, Nina, Ethan and Karen met again, and the Lipscomb family bought a bag of bubble toys for the toddler, according to WRAL.

"The story of bubbles is so pure and innocent and yet effective," Karen said.
