The Backstreet Boy member Nick Carter reacted to the surprising death of his brother and said his heart had been broken, however complicated their relationship might have been.

Aaron Carter died Saturday at the early age of 34. Fans and friends were mourning, but not as much as his family.

Nick Carter, 42, expressed his heartbreak and mourning on social media Sunday, posting a series of throwback photos with his brother in their youth on Instagram with a lengthy caption.

"My heart has been broken today. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded," continuing that "I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday, want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed. Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here," Nick stated.

He continued saying he loved "Chizz" and would miss him more than anyone else.

He ended his caption by expressing how his brother has finally got the peace he could never find on earth and asking God to take care of his "baby brother."

'Complicated Relationship'

The brothers and Aaron's twin sister, Angel, had a "tumultuous relationship" over the years before Aaron died, People reported.

In 2019, Nick announced that he and Angel filed for a restraining order against their brother, stating that the latter had allegedly threatened to kill his wife and unborn child.

In a statement, he expressed how they regret requiring a restraining order against Aaron but were left with no choice but to take "every measure possible" to ensure that they and their families are protected.

He added that their love for him has not changed, but they hope Aaron can get urgent and proper treatment before any harm comes to himself or the people around him.

Twin sister paid tribute

Aaron responded on Twitter the same day, saying he was just served the restraining order, and added, "lol."

He tagged his brother Nick and continued saying they were done for life. He then explained that he had not seen Nick for four years and had no intention of seeing him. Thus, he was "astounded" by the accusations against him as he did not wish to harm anyone, most importantly, his family.

A Los Angeles court in November 2019 extended the domestic violence restraining order that Angel filed against Aaron until 2020. The order did not allow Aaron to come within 100 yards of Angel, her husband Corey Conrad, and their home and place of business.

She previously claimed in court documents that Aaron had "threatened" her life and her husband and daughter Harper in a phone call. Allegedly, he told her that he had "people" that would come and harm them.

Angel also took to Instagram and paid tribute to his twin brother, expressing that she loves him "beyond measure." She continued, saying she would carry him with her until she died and saw him again.

Alongside twin Aaron and Nick, Angel is also a sibling to sister Bobbie Jean Carter, as well as half-sister Virginia Marie Carter, half-brother Kaden Brent Carter, and step-sister Taelyn Dobson. Angel is also a sibling to late sister Leslie Carter, who, in 2012, died of an overdose.

As of this writing, there still has been no official report as to Aaron's cause of death.

Songwriter Dianne Warren shared her thoughts on Twitter about the young singer's death and expressed that fame at a very young age can often be a curse rather than a blessing, and surviving it is very hard.
