A mother from Brazil successfully gave birth to one of the largest babies.

The woman, Cleidiane Santos dos Santos, 27, welcomed his 16-pound baby boy, Angerson, at Hospital Padre Colombo in Parintins, Amazonas State.

The baby was 2 feet in length at birth and was delivered via cesarean section. It is possible that the mother's diabetes affected the baby's weight.

Second largest baby

Santos was not expecting to give birth immediately. She said she had gone to the hospital for her usual obstetric checkup.

According to the Daily Mail, the medical professionals immediately concluded that the unborn child would be too enormous for her to carry to full term, so the surgeons performed the C-section the next day, and Angerson was born.

Angerson, who measures 59 centimeters long and is currently being cared for in an incubator, is the largest baby ever to be born in the state of Amazonas.

The previous record for the state was established in 2011 by a kid who weighed 13 pounds and measured 1.8 feet.

TODAY reported that Angerson is being watched in the newborn intensive care unit, according to Dr. Artemisia Pessoa, an OB-GYN at Hospital Padre Colombo.

Dr. Pessoa said that the hospital's medical staff is just as happy and excited that the baby was born safely.

They are glad that both the baby boy and his mother are in stable condition. Santos described her pain, saying she felt like two tractor-trailers were hitting her at the same time.

She also expressed her gratitude towards the medical team that cared for her and her son, saying she is thankful to each of them.

Angerson nearly missed the national record set by Ademilton dos Santos, born in 2005 and weighing 17 pounds (8 kg). He may, however, be the second-largest infant ever born.

Diabetes during pregnancy

The doctors stated that the diabetes of the baby's mother might have contributed to Angerson's enormous weight.

Gestational diabetes is by far the most frequent type of diabetes that moms get while they are carrying their children.

It can result in excessive blood sugar levels if it is not carefully managed. A high blood sugar level can create complications for the mother and her unborn child.

Gestational diabetes might give mothers birth complications, according to the Mayo Clinic. One of the mentioned complications is excessive birth weight.

Mothers with high blood sugar levels also have a high chance of causing their babies to grow larger. Huge babies have an increased risk of being stuck in the birth canal, sustaining injuries during birth, or requiring a delivery through a cesarean section.

Hospital Padre Colombo is fundraising for new clothes for Angerson as he will not fit those bought by his parents.

For the baby, the hospital is accepting donations of clothing and diaper sizes for children from nine months to a year.
