North Carolina Students Caught Bringing Unloaded Guns to School

Officials at Fairview Elementary School in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, reported a troubling incident on Tuesday morning when a 6-year-old student was caught with an unloaded firearm in his backpack.

However, another case of a student with a firearm was reported in a North Carolina middle school.

Fortunately, no one was harmed, but the student's mother was charged for not storing the weapon safely and securely.

North Carolina's 6-year-old student caught with an unloaded gun

According to ABC 11, an investigation found that a 6-year-old student at Fairview Elementary School in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, had an unloaded 9mm handgun in his backpack on Tuesday.

Another student noticed the firearm and alerted a teacher, who quickly secured the backpack and removed the child from the classroom.

The school resource officer investigated the incident, and officials praised the staff's quick response to avoid a potentially serious situation.

In response to the incident, Rocky Mount Police Chief Robert Hassell emphasized the importance of gun owners securing their firearms to prevent minors from accessing them.

Chief Hassell also urged students to report suspicious activity to a teacher or trusted adult. He added that while incidents like this can be frightening for children, they provide an opportunity to have meaningful conversations about safety and speaking up to prevent potential harm.

Fortunately, no threats were seen with the weapon and the child. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine how the student came into possession of the firearm.

According to the Nash County Public School's code of conduct, the student will face disciplinary action for bringing a weapon onto school grounds.

North Carolina's Wendell Middle School student found with gun

Another incident involving a student bringing a gun to school has been reported in North Carolina.

According to WRAL News, a student at Wendell Middle School was found to have a gun during school hours, also on Tuesday.

On-campus staff immediately notified law enforcement and Wake County Public School System Security (WCPSS), who confiscated the weapon from the student.

Following a thorough investigation by law enforcement and WCPSS Security, it was determined that the student did not intend to cause harm to the school. Instead, the student had reportedly shown the gun to classmates.

No one was threatened during the incident. Principal Catherine Trudell emphasized that all students at Wendell Middle School were safe.

The incident resulted in charges being filed against the student's mother for storing a firearm in a manner that made it accessible to a minor.

This serves as a reminder of the importance of safe gun storage practices, especially in households with children.

Law enforcement and school officials also reiterated the need for students to immediately report any suspicious or concerning behavior to a teacher or trusted adult to ensure everyone on campus's safety.
