The incident occurred on Sunday night during the long holiday weekend, which has seen several incidents of gun violence across the country.

According to TODAY, the shooting took place around 10:37 P.M. local time. When shots were fired between 111th and 127th streets, six people were inside a car.

The white SUV from which the shots were fired was able to get off the expressway and stopped near the 111th Street exit ramp.

Police officials confirmed that three people were killed in the shooting. Two victims died at the scene, while the third died in the hospital.

Four others were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victims as 19-year-old Nasir Hall, 13-year-old William Smith, and 1-year-old A-mara Hall.

A-mara Hall died of a gunshot wound to the torso, while the other two victims died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The manner of death for all three has been ruled as a homicide. NBC reported that the state police said three other people were taken to the hospital, but their ages and conditions were not immediately available.

However, one was believed to be a child who was rushed to the University of Chicago's Comer Children's Hospital for treatment, and another was a woman who was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center.

The police had not yet released more information about the shooting, and it is still unclear what led to the gunfire.

Investigations are still ongoing

In the wake of the recent Chicago highway shooting, Pastor Donovan Price, who was present at the scene of the shooting, is now working with the boy's family to help them cope with their loss.

The victim's mother is reportedly in extreme shock and pain and is barely able to speak at this time.

According to CBS, Price said that the mother was not in the car at the time of the incident and only learned about it through a phone call that urged her to go to the hospital.

Upon arriving at the hospital, the mother was devastated, shocked, and still trying to understand what had happened.

The motives and intentions of the shooter are still unclear, and it is possible that this incident was a case of road rage.

While there is speculation about the reasons for the shooting, the police have not revealed any information about the relationship between the six people in the car.

The investigation is still in its infancy, and to protect its integrity, no further information is available at this time.

UChicago Medicine also declined to comment, saying it could not provide information due to HIPAA regulations.
