First Officer Surprises Mom on Her First Flight with Him Following His Father's Death

At 34, Jerome Lawrence is a successful first officer with United Airlines. His journey to becoming a pilot began at 17 and took many years to achieve. Jerome attributes much of his success to his supportive parents, Gwendoline, and the late John Lawrence.

Pilot Surprises Mom on Her First Flight with Him

When Jerome had the chance to surprise his mom on a flight home to Tobago, he seized it. "I've always wanted to fly my parents because they supported my dream from the beginning."

Jerome didn't want to wait for the perfect moment, especially after his father passed away on Christmas Day, just four months earlier, without ever flying with him.

He enlisted the help of United Airlines staff to execute the surprise, which he shared on Instagram and was later reposted by the airline on Mother's Day.

"The highlight was my mom seeing me before we boarded the plane. Everyone from the gate agents to the flight attendants and even my captain helped make it happen," Jerome said.

On April 30, during United Flight 2353 from Houston to Port of Spain, Trinidad, Jerome made a special declaration that went viral on social media. "It's a special moment for me. My mom, who's in first class, is on this flight for the first time, and it's my first return to the Caribbean in 17 years," he said.

He conveyed how significant it was to share this moment, especially since his dad, who passed away, was an important part of his journey.

He ended with a message to parents, urging them to support their children's dreams. "Without my parents' support, I wouldn't be here flying you to Port of Spain."

Gwendoline Lawrence says she was completely surprised and almost overwhelmed by her son's gesture. She shared that it was her first trip home without her late husband, who used to meet her at the airport.

United Airlines confirmed the surprise, expressing pride in being part of such heartfelt moments. Jerome reminisced about his father, a "gentle giant," whose support was crucial in his journey. He hopes to replicate his father's dedication when he has his own family someday.

The Lawrences hope their story inspires others. Gwendoline encourages parents to listen to and support their children's aspirations. Jerome added, "Dreams are possible; I'm living proof."

Pilot Announces that His Mom Is Among the Flight Attendants

A United Airlines pilot, Cole Doss, brought joy to passengers when he announced that one of the flight attendants was his mom, Moya Doss.

The declaration, made before leaving from Dulles, Virginia, to Madrid, Spain, on July 25, was met with cheers from the cabin. Cole conveyed his appreciation for his mother's support throughout his career and his excitement at working with her for the first time.

The experience was shared on social media, with Cole describing it as a highlight of his career. Moya, who has been with United for over 45 years, was pleasantly surprised by the announcement.

Cole, whose family has a strong connection to the aviation industry, cherished the opportunity to work with his mother. During their layover in Madrid, they explored the city together.

They are already planning their next trip, and Cole expressed appreciation for the dedication of flight attendants like his mother.
