'Winds of Winter' Release Date: George RR Martin Reveals Inspiration Behind 'Winter Is Coming' Motto; Author Refuses To Talk About Jon Snow [Report]

George RR Martin's fans have been waiting for the sixth installment of the popular novel series "A Song Ice and Fire." But, the waiting will soon be over because "The Winds Winter" is expected to arrive next year. Yes, winter is coming indeed.

The statement "winter is coming" is very popular among the "Game of Thrones" fans and "The Winds of Winter" followers. Martin even uttered this statement in his previous appearances.

Parent Herald previously reported that Martin was invited to take the field for a speech when he attended the ballgame between Staten Island Direwolves and Hudson Valley Renegade. He grabbed the mic and in front of the crowd to "warn the boys of summer that winter could still be coming." Before the celebrity author left the field, he reminded the audience again, "And remember, winter is coming."

According to The Week, this is the heart of the fantasy TV series because it serves as the motto of the Stark family. At the same time, it's a reminder of the years - long winters which have the power to wipe out the inhabitants of Westeros if they don't all kill each other first.

In an event at the Medill School of Journalism in Chicago, one audience asked Martin how he came up with the idea. The New-Mexican author was generous enough to disclose his inspiration.

"The coldest winter was in Chicago. There was so much snow that winter, you couldn't see, all snow, all ice, and it was so very cold," the 67-year-old author said according to Entertainment Weekly. "I remember walking through the trenches and the tunnels of ice, the wind blowing so you couldn't even see. It's an experience that never left me."

However, when Martin was asked by another audience about Jon Snow's fate, whether the crowd-favorite character will return or not but he refused to answer." No comment on that. I'm just saying, read the books," The Independent reported.

For those wondering why until now "The Winds of Winter" is not out, the celebrity author revealed that he is a "very slow writer." In fact, he didn't think that it will catch him up. "The show, of course, has caught up to me, which I didn't actually think would ever happen," he said per Entertainment Weekly. "I had such a huge lead, but the truth is, I'm a very slow writer."

Parent Herald previously reported that Martin is writing at his own pace and he hinted that "what the show is doing is not going to change what the books are."

Well, let's see the difference once "The Winds of Winter" hit the bookshelves and when "Game of Thrones" returns.
