Will Smith Says Jaden's Emancipation was a Joke

Will Smith declared that the news of his son Jaden seeking legal emancipation was a "joke" and that the youngster was "scared of being out on his own."

In an interview to Haute Living magazine, Smith confessed that he just made a joke in Tokyo about his son seeking emancipation. "Willow is probably going to be emancipated before Jaden!  I think I was in Tokyo where I made a joke that if he has a day where his movie is bigger than one of mine then there's no reason for him to live in my house. His 15th birthday is coming up so he can probably be emancipated."

Will and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith have been under scrutiny for being too lenient with their children and pushing them into showbiz. But the 44-year-old star defended their style of parenting by saying that they respect their children the way they would respect any other person."I think that, specifically in African American households, the idea coming out of slavery, there's a concept of your children being property and that was a major part that Jada and I released with our kids," he told the magazine.

The couple had recently said that they let their children have control over their lives and decide on crucial matters on their own. However, Will has a word of advice for his teenage son. He says that children should make sure that their dreams are impossible. "I was just saying to Jaden and his friends the other day to make sure their dreams is impossible, because they have to sustain them for a lifetime. You have to be really careful with material world dreams on both sides: achieving them and not achieving them," he told Haute Living.
