'Fable Legends' Beta & Release Date: Gameplay To Remain in Closed Beta, New Details Out Soon -- What We Know So Far

Lionhead's “Fable Legends” was originally part of Microsoft's big lineup of games that were set for release during fall. However, that didn't happen – the game hasn't been released yet.

GameSpot reported that the multiplayer game is only available through a closed beta that requires players to sign a nondisclosure agreement before they could play the game. Details about an open beta release, however, are still nowhere to be found.

In an effort to determine when will everyone be able to play the highly-anticipated game, Game Informer asked Microsoft about the issue. The game company, however, didn't have much to say.

“As a service-based title in closed beta, we’re always working to make sure that when we open ‘Fable Legends’ to everyone, that it’s a great gameplay experience," a representative said. “We are continuing to expand our closed beta and will have more details to share in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!”

Microsoft's response, according to GameSpot, coincides with what a marketing executive told them months ago.

Microsoft marketing exec Aaron Greenberg said that the company will move the game into a full, open beta when it's ready. He said that, currently, they are expanding the game's closed beta and they are not in a rush to release it.

“So, at this point, we're staying in closed beta and we'll share more news when we're ready to,” he said.

It seems that the game will be big when it is finally launched.

According to IGN, although “Fable Legends” is quite different from other games in the franchise, it's a game of its own kind. It's a mixture of two different games, depending on how a player would want to play it: either as a hero or a villain.

As a hero, a player will be playing cooperatively with three others in making their way through multiple arenas filled with monsters. It's a kill-or-be-killed scenario, where they have to kill all the monsters in an arena before advancing to the next or die trying.

Players can choose from different heroes, each of them possessing unique skill sets. Mastering these and playing synergetically with others makes it easier to move between arenas.

As a villain, a player will be setting up traps and monster spawn points in every arena and, then, making them work as the heroes move through. It's like playing a real-time strategy game.

Although no release dates have been given, fans better wait for it just the same, as the wait could be well worth it.
