This Dog's Recovery From Horrifying Mange Will Bring You To Tears

When the dog Alice was found by Animal Aid United in India, she had such a severe case of mange that her once thick mane of fur had now turned into a hard crust. Luckily, with the proper care, Alice is now expected to make a full recovery.

According to the Daily Mail, the parasitic mites on Alice's fur caused so much scabbing that she "looked like a barnacle." Mange does not only cause scabbing on mammals, it also causes severe itching and excessive hair loss.

When she was found behind an abandoned tuk-tuk in India she had already grown extremely weak. What's worse is that she was emaciated and left to die as a result of her injuries. When she was found, Alice was already very near death. Luckily, rescue workers got to her in time before she either starved or succumbed to infection or various injuries.

Footage has been released of Animal Aid United's rescue effort. In the video, the visually hurt Alice still mustered up enough energy to eat. At the rescue center, workers quickly gave Alice her first bath in a long time. They also rubbed lotion to soften her scabbed and hardened skin. This treatment seemed to work as by the fourth day of the rescue, Alice's skin was already smooth and fur was growing once more.

By the sixth week of treatment, Alice had already recovered from the mange. By the end of the footage, Alice could be seen happy as can be and wagging her tail. It closes with her cuddling with one of the rescue center's staff members.

Pop culture sites such as Pop Sugar have said that her recovery will "bring you to tears" and they were definitely right. One person who viewed the video commented "I love your wonderful work... thank you for helping." Another person asked, "Who is cutting onions in my room?"
