Three Ways To Rebuild Parenting And Discipline For Modern Day Kids

Parenting is not an easy job, especially in this generation where most parents are busy making a living to ensure their children don't get hungry. There have been so many books published about parenting that in a way could tend to be overwhelming with facts and figures, which is why it became quite a struggle for parents these days to choose and focus on which one could actually work for their situation.

It is time to find some ways again to refocus on parenting, especially these days that the times have changed with regards to the kind of kids this era has been raising. Here are some tips that will help parents cope up with the times and deal with parenting modern day children.

1. Speak don't scream: It is a common mistake that some parents would yell at their kids just to make them follow orders. In an article written by Scott Gornto of the Huffington Post, he said it is crucial that parents speak to their children with respect.

He pointed out what the former editor of Mothering Magazine said about this, "The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice." If you talk to a child in an argumentative or a scary tone of voice, that is how their inner voice would sound growing up.

2. Be in the moment: Time is valuable and it is the most precious gift you could give to your children. To be a parent means to be present and available whenever your child needs you. Kids could tell if their parents are there physically but emotionally absent. Make sure that you make eye contact whenever you speak with them, as this is one of most important things in parenting.

3. Mindfulness: Another article by the British version of the Huffington Post points out this another key in parenting- mindfulness. It means being focused and not easily preoccupied by the things that could overwhelm your mind and even your emotions. Meditation helps in achieving it.

These three things could help any parent refocus their lives on the needs of their children, which would result to good parenting and raising good kids.
