Royal Baby George Revealed to the World: Kate and William Pose with Son in Sweet, Informal Photos

The world has been watching their every move - from their wedding, honeymoon, pregnancy, and finally the birth of their baby - and now the British Royal family has released the first official photos of royal baby Prince George for all to see.

In a release issued Monday, Kensington Palace said the photographs were taken by Michael Middleton, Kate's father, in early August in the garden of the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, England. The previous custom was to have the first publically released photos taken by a professional.

"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen to release two family photographs with their son, Prince George," Kensington Palace said in a statement.

"The photographs were taken by Mr. Michael Middleton in early August in the garden of the Middleton family home in Bucklebury, Berkshire," the statement said.

Prince George was born July 22 in a London hospital. He is third in line to the throne after Princes Charles and William. He weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces, according to an official announcement from Kensington Palace four hours after the birth. The baby's official title is His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge. His full name is Prince George Alexander Louis.

"They do like to do things in their own way and that is not a bad thing, but in this particular instance they may come in for a bit of flack over this," Joe Little, the managing director of Majesty magazine, told Reuters.

"People would have liked a better look at George and you can't see his face clearly. These are not much more than family snapshots and they are not of a professional standard," Little said.

The couple has been laying low since leaving the hospital for Kensington Palace. They were seen leaving the palace not long after, reportedly to head to Kate's parents' home in Bucklebury.
