Man Learns Wife’s Pregnancy Through Fitbit Fitness Tracker

A man from New York discovered that Fitbit can do more than just track the heart rate, sleep, calories, and steps. This is after he found out that his wife is pregnant of their first child through the fitness tracking device.

The soon-to-be dad, who only identifies himself as David, told BuzzFeed News that he and his wife Ivonne bought Fitbit fitness trackers after they agreed to get in shape. However, he noticed that Ivonne's heartbeat readings were consistently registering as high.

Thinking that the tracker was just faulty, David posted a note on Reddit  using the username YoungPTone. He asked if anyone has an idea why his wife's resting heart rate keeps on registering high.

"I'm not sure if something is wrong with the sensor. Is there a way to reset or recalibrate the device? I'd like to try that before I contact customer service about a possible replacement," he said on his post.

His post received several replies. Until a Reddit user named Thatwasunpleasant commented that David's wife could be pregnant. "Has she experienced anything really stressful in the last few days or is it a possibility she is pregnant?"

According to David, it was Thatwasunpleasant's reply that made him realize pregnancy could be the possible explanation. He shared that he and Ivonne have been trying for a baby in the past months.

A day after, David updated the thread and announced he is going to be a dad. "I never even knew that was a legitimate symptom," he posted.

David added that they are both surprised and happy about the discovery. "It's definitely a great story to tell [the baby] one day about how it happened, and [we are] happy to have all the support of people on Reddit."

CBS News reported that a quicker heart rate can be a possible sign of pregnancy according to the experts from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. When a woman is pregnant, the heart rate may increase by 10 to 15 beats per minute or more.
