Ways To Boost Fertility; Experts Suggest Lifestyle Tweaks To Increase Chances Of Getting Pregnant

Trying to conceive can be difficult for a woman both physically and mentally. These simple lifestyle tweaks that anyone can start today can help boost fertility.

One in eight couples has trouble getting pregnant and keeping their pregnancies viable according to The National Infertility Association. While having intercourse as close to a woman's ovulation period helps, fertility experts claim that there are other ways couples can increase their chances of getting pregnant.

1.     Control weight

Being significantly under or overweight can affect a woman's fertility as girls who are too thin can take four times longer to get pregnant than a woman with a body mass index (BMI) in the normal range. An overweight woman, on the other hand, may have insulin resistance, which may disrupt menstruation.

In many cases, gaining or losing a mere five pounds should be enough to jumpstart menstruation and ovulation. The normal range for BMI is between 19 and 24 kg/M2.

2.     Eat healthier

Similar to controlling weight, eating healthier comes side by side to achieving the normal weight range. A diet rich in fish, fruits and vegetables can help a woman's body get into the perfect shape for getting pregnant.

Women who want to boost fertility should also avoid processed foods that are infused with chemicals and preservatives. Experts suggest eating a clean, healthy and balanced diet along with taking vitamins and supplements.

3.     Lessen alcohol and caffeine

Most experts agree that 200 to 250 milligrams of caffeine a day, which is equal to one to two cups of coffee, is perfectly fine. Although research and studies are contradicting, caffeine can affect female hormone levels, which can consequently affect how long it takes to get pregnant.

Excessive alcohol consumption, on the other hand, has been linked to no ovulation, no period and abnormalities with the endometrial lining, according to The Bump. While an occasional glass of wine may not affect your fertility, experts suggest ditching the alcohol altogether as soon as a woman starts trying to conceive.

4.     Stop smoking

Smoking can impair not only a woman's infertility but also of a man's, according to Celeb Baby Laundry. Smoking can reduce sperm count production and damage DNA in men while it can also affect how receptive a woman's uterus is to the egg.

In many studies, smoking has been found to boost the risks of miscarriage while pregnant. Experts strongly suggest that quitting smoking is vital to boost a woman's chances of getting pregnant.
