The parents of a four-month-old girl were charged with murder after authorities found their daughter dead inside a dresser drawer in a Houston motel last year.

The victim was identified as Brookelynn Fancher, who, in May 2024, was found unresponsive tucked inside a dresser drawer at a Days Inn off Rancho Mission Drive and pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner who was in charge of the case concluded that the child died by suffocation.

Investigators were quick to suspect that the girl's parents, Jeremy Fancher and Destiny Campos, were responsible for the victim's death. On top of the couple being charged with murder, Marilyn Jennifer Mork, who is believed to be the father's current girlfriend, was taken into custody and charged with hindering apprehension.

The grandmother of the four-month-old girl, Lisa Farrell, shared that she got a frantic call from a friend in 2024. Now, she was relieved to finally see her own daughter, Campos, and her grandchild's father being charged with Brookelynn's death, according to ABC13.

She said that the couple needs to spend their entire lives in prison for what they did to her granddaughter. Farrell said that they will never see Brookelynn graduate, get married, and have her own kids.

Investigators believe that the suspects often put their daughter inside a drawer so that they could have private and intimate moments in the motel room. A magistrate judge referred to this particular finding in his initial court hearing, where he set the bond for Campos at $300,000.

Court documents also showed that the parents were getting ready for a Memorial Day celebration when they noticed that their daughter was not moving. Fancher said that he then tried to resuscitate Brookelynn, KHOU reported.

Authorities discovered that the family was apparently living in the motel room for more than a year alongside their four-month-old daughter. During the time that they were there, a housekeeper said she was inside the room at one time that Campos was sleeping and heard Brookelynn crying in the drawer.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said their team was relentless in seeking justice for Brookelynn, noting that the process was moving steadily forward. The girl's great-grandmother, Luann Simon, also said she is relieved to hear about the charges against the child's parents.

She noted that authorities had previously discovered methamphetamines in the hotel room where the family stayed last year, as per People.
