A 47-year-old man from Harris County was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of brutally killing his elderly parents in July using a baseball bat.

Authorities identified the suspect as Christopher Leonidas Leman Jr., who they charged in connection with the deaths of his parents. The victims were identified as 75-year-old Christopher Leman Sr. and 73-year-old Mary Leman.

The incident came after Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies conducted a welfare check on the elderly couple on July 11 in the 10000 block of Crosby Lynchburg Road. The welfare check was done at the request of a family member, who said they had not been able to contact the couple for two days.

Deputies then found the victims inside the home, unresponsive and suffering from what they believed to be gunshot wounds at the time. Officials pronounced Leman Sr. dead at the scene and brought Mary to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Downtown Houston via air ambulance. She was later pronounced dead on July 13, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Harris County court documents showed that the two victims both suffered blunt-force trauma with a deadly weapon and that Leman Sr. had stab wounds to his chest. Deputies also discovered a folding blade knife inside the elderly couple's home.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators identified the couple's son as a suspect in the case. The family member who called for the welfare check contacted authorities and said that the couple's son was living with his parents at the time and suffered from mental health issues.

When authorities arrested Leman Jr., he was taken into custody without incident and later taken to the Harris County joint processing center before being booked into the Harris County Jail. He is currently facing capital murder charges for the killings of his parents, KHOU11 reported.

A Similarly Brutal Incident

In a separate but similarly brutal incident, a man was accused in June of attacking his parents with a hammer and has since been charged with attempted murder. Honolulu police identified the suspect as 29-year-old London Opendack.

The assailant allegedly attacked his parents using a hammer at the Moana Vista Apartments on Ala Moana Boulevard at around 4:00 p.m. Authorities said the couple, a 64-year-old woman and a 77-year-old man, suffered injuries to their heads, faces, and hands.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services then took the victims to the hospital in serious condition. Police were later able to locate and arrest Opendack after he was seen near the Walmart on Keeaumoku Street, as per the Hawaii News Now.
