A private Christian school teacher from Virginia has been arrested and charged with alleged child sex crimes.

Authorities revealed that they took the suspect, 34-year-old Katelin Campbell, into custody on Thursday. State prosecutors also allege that the woman had consensual sexual contact with a minor who is at least 15 years old.

Teacher Charged With Child Sex Crimes

School administrators are saying that they acted immediately after the allegations against Campbell surfaced. The headmistress of CH Friend School, Dana Jones, said that within an hour of receiving the information, two members of the Board of Directors traveled to the South Boston Police Department to report what was disclosed to the school about the teacher.

She added that no contact with Campbell nor action regarding her employment was necessary at the time because the teacher submitted her notice of resignation on Aug. 4. That was the same day that the school was made aware of the allegations against her, according to Fox News.

Jones also emphasized that the school had prioritized integrity over reputation while dealing with Campbell's case. She noted that scripture is very clear in saying that if it was done in the dark, it was going to be brought to light.

The headmistress acknowledged that the school was aware that involving law enforcement in the case could bring unwanted attention, but noted that they wanted to do the right thing. Jones said they understood that taking it to the police department would shine a light on the school.

The teacher arrested in the case was released on a $2,500 bond on the day she was taken into custody. Campbell had served as an English teacher at the Christian school and taught students from 7th to 12th grade, People reported.

The Alleged Victim

Despite the arrest, it remains unclear whether or not the alleged victim of the crimes was a student at the school. However, the Commonwealth's Attorney confirmed that the minor was a male individual.

The teacher is now facing two felony charges, including indecent liberties with a minor by someone in a custodial role and consensual sexual activity involving a minor aged 15 or older. Jail records showed she initially booked into the Halifax County Adult Detention Center before being released on bond.

The Commonwealth's Attorney's office has not yet commented on the case, and the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said that the South Boston Police Department was the one that investigated the case, as per Yahoo News.
