Women Should Eat High-Calorie Breakfast To Boost Fertility: Study

Women can boost their fertility by consuming a high-calorie breakfast, a latest study by researchers of Israel states.

Researchers at Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University and Wolfson Medical Center conducted the study on 60 women, aged between 25 and 39 with body mass index of less than 23. The time-frame of the study was 12 weeks.

The participants suffered from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). The scientists sought a link between meal times and its effect on PCOS.

The women were divided into two groups and were allowed to consume about 1,800 calories a day, reported Daily Mail. First group consumed their high-calorie meal in the morning and the other during night.

The study results showed that glucose levels and Insulin resistance decreased by eight percent among those who had a calorie-laden breakfast. The second group did not show any improvement.

The participating women of the first group had higher rate of ovulation when compared to the second group. This showed that women with PCOS who ate a sumptuous breakfast had higher levels of fertility.

"The research clearly demonstrates that indeed the amount of calories we consume daily is very important, but the timing as to when we consume them is even more important," lead study author Professor Oren Froy said.

Testosterone levels, however, decreased by nearly 50 percent in the first group. The second group's levels remained stable.

The study is published in journal 'Clinical Science.'
