Get To Know Three Of The Most Addictive Substances On Earth

There are several addictive substances that may manage to lead into destruction. Though asking the question, "What is the most addictive substance?" may seem easy to answer; it actually depends on who you're asking. Being attached to a particular substance varies per individual, but there are substances that are highly addictive regardless of the person's preference.

According to Business Insider, different researchers suggest that the potential of a drug to become addictive depends on how the dopamine level of the person reacts. Though drugs are often labelled as addictive, some researchers would still argue that there are certain drugs that do not induce addiction. Listed below are three of the most addictive substances on earth.

Heroine

Experts placed heroine on top of the list of the most addictive substances as it is ranked with 2.5 out of 3 when it comes to inducing addiction. The addictive substance is an opiate and is known to feed the dopamine level of the brain. Heroine increases the satisfaction on the brain's dopamine levels though a reward system. Aside from being highly addictive, it is also lethal as the wrong dosage can possibly lead to death.

Alcohol

Alcohol is listed as the second most addictive substance, what made it worse is the fact that it can easily be acquired. Although it is legal in most parts of the world, it has an age limit as to how it could be bought. According to Nutt et al.'s experts, alcohol scored 2.2 out of 3 as to how addictive it can get. It affects the brain in various ways, but a research on animals that was published on "The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics" revealed that it rewards the brain's dopamine levels by 40-330 percent.

Nicotine

The twelfth most addictive substance is nicotine, which is usually acquired through cigarettes. Though it does not rank on the first five on the list of the most addictive substances, it is however one of the most common. The main ingredient that triggers the addiction is tobacco, wherein it can easily be absorbed by the lungs and delivered to the brain once it is inhaled.
