Experts Debate Whether or Not Kim Kardashian's Post-Baby Weight Loss is Safe

Health and diet experts engage in debates following a photo that Kim Kardashian posted on her Instagram account which showcased a much slender figure just after a few months of giving birth, according to Yahoo! News.

Kim recently confirmed that she has been on an Atkins diet which has recently evolved to allowing a maximum of eight to ten servings of vegetables and limiting protein consumption to just four to six ounces per meal. She posted the confirmation on her Twitter account and said: "I've actually been doing the Atkins diet & luv it," according to the Daily Mail.

Colette Heimowitz, vice president of Nutrition for Atkins Nutritionals Inc. and the person who's working with Kim on her diet said her client is "eating lots of lean proteins, healthy fats like nuts and avocado, carbs, fruits, veggies and cheese. She wanted to be a healthy, nursing mom and not toxify her milk with her diet or lose weight too quickly. She's been doing Atkins since her doctor approved it at the end of June", she added.

Heimowitz also pointed out that rapid weight loss wasn't part of Kim's diet especially since doing this is not necessarily good for the mother who is still breastfeeding her baby, North West. Rather, Heimowitz started the reality TV star on phase 2 Atkins - a type of diet that isn't as strict as the other phases because she was still allowed to enjoy berried and Greek yogurt.

Some doctors and dieticians have expressed their thoughts about Kim's new diet. "Moms should be focusing on what is good for a baby's brain. Many women try to go on low-fat, low-calorie diets in order to lose weight, which is a big mistake. Babies need a variety of nutrients and definitely enough fat," said Dr. Tana Amen, author of The Omni Diet.
