7 Tips To Get Dogs To Like Bath Time

Unless your dogs love water, giving your furry pals a bath can be exhausting for both you and your dog. Fortunately, there are ways to make a dog like bath time without giving too much anxiety to your furry loved one.

1.     Take him out for a walk first

Taking your dog out for a nice long walk will make him crave for the cool water afterwards. Your dog will also have less energy to fight off the process making it easier for the pet owner, according to Cesar's Way.

2.     Start small

Move in a slow and relaxed pace to make your dog feel comfortable. You can start by wetting his feet first before gradually moving on to other body parts of the body offering a steady and calming energy. Basically, teach your dog that the tub is a not so scary place to be in, Pet MD says.

3.     Buy a mat

A sticky, non-slip mat can help your dog feel more stable inside the tub instead of slipping and sliding all over the place. The simple addition can help erase of the biggest reasons pets do not feel secure inside the bathtub.

4.     Set the water temperature

What seems to be comfortable for you may not be the same for your furry pal. Make sure to use lukewarm water to ensure that the sudden change in temperature will not bring any more shock or anxiety to your dog.

5.     Bring treats

Bringing treats into the bathroom can be a great way to reward them while getting bathed. Give them some chicken or a juicy piece of steak as a high-value reward that they do not normally get to let them know that bath time is associated with great, yummy things.

6.     Bathe with other dogs

Many dogs take their cue from other dogs, which is why it might be a good idea to bathe dogs together. Seeing other dogs relax and enjoy the experience might want your furry pal to do the same.

7.     Being a positive attitude

Dogs feed off of their owners' body language and energy which means when owners feel anxious about giving a bath, so will their dogs. Bring a fun and positive attitude when it's bath time to allow for a wonderful bonding moment.
