Fertility Problems: Vitamin D Linked To Higher IVF Success Rate

If you want to have higher IVF success rate, better not forget your daily dose of Vitamin D. Latest study shows that Vitamin D plays a huge role in making quality embryos.

One study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism reported that animal studies have revealed that Vitamin D exposure affects fertility. The role of Vitamin D is important in IVF as it helps in the production of better embryos and ensures a more successful implantation, giving you higher IVF success rate.

Vitamin D Can Increase Your Chances

According to Parenting, the study involved 335 women who have different Vitamin D levels. From this group, 154 were Vitamin D deficient while 181 were not. The results of the study showed that those with deficient Vitamin D levels had a lower chance of conceiving through IVF. Those who are not deficient were twice as likely to conceive through IVF.

Medscape stated that a Vitamin D level of 20 ng/mL or higher is enough to increase one's chances of having quality embryos. A level lower than 20 ng/mL will not be sufficient to ensure higher IVF success rate.

Take Multivitamins, Not Just One

Before you go out and overdose yourself with Vitamin D, take note of Dr. Tanmoy Mukherjee, co-director of Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York. He said that getting sufficient Vitamin D levels does not mean grabbing a Vitamin D supplement right away. What he recommends is to take a multivitamin as part of one's daily diet.

Dr. Mukerjee also emphasized that a multivitamin and a healthy diet are among basic keys to improve fertility. He also said that even if one has a healthy diet, a daily dose of multivitamin helps in insuring that all bodily functions are at the optimum.

Alessio Paffoni, one of the authors of the study said that while randomized clinical trials are still essential to confirm the findings, the study results are clear. Vitamin D is linked to the production of better quality embryos and better implantation, both of which are necessary to ensure higher IVF success rate.
