Sweet Treats Can Caused Kids’ Obesity: Parents Play A Key Role To Avoid The Condition

There are various causes of child obesity, ranging from food intake that often blames the sweet and fast foods, hereditary or disease. It has been said children who are opting to eat more sugary foods have the higher chance to develop obesity but, with the guidance of their parents, they can try to avoid the condition.

In a study published by the National Council on Family Relations, children, who eat more sweet over salty food, have more chance to build up body fat at the age of about three years old. The research claimed some kids are naturally born to have a sweet tooth, which makes them at risk of gaining "unhealthy weight," as per Dr. Julie C. Lumeng, lead author and a developmental and behavioral pediatrician at University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital.

"The liking for sweet taste is probably biologically-wired, and some kids are just born with more of an interest in dessert than others," Dr. Lumeng told CBS News. However, she explained, including sweet foods in a children's meal is hard to avoid and prevent.

Avoid Child Obesity

The causes of child's obesity are difficult to determine but, parents are the key role to help their children to avoid the condition. Science Daily reported families that have kids suffering from obesity can improve their situation by influencing their "dietary habits and weight" by "planning healthy living campaigns," as advised by Barbara H. Fiese and Kelly K. Bost, author of the study.

"The family system plays an important role in understanding childhood obesity -- not as a source of blame but as part of a larger ecology that may support or derail children's health," Fiese and Bost explained. Children's consciousness and reaction when they feel full or hungry intercede the connection of their "genetic risk for obesity and their body volume index, they continued.
