'River Monsters' Crew Rescued Real-Life Island Castaway Off Australian Shores While Filming One Episode [WATCH VIDEO]

Instead of finding monster fish, the "River Monsters" crew found a real-life castaway stranded for more than two days on an uninhabited Australian island. The cameras continued to roll as the heroic rescue effort became part of the whole episode.

The "River Monsters" team was doing an episode in Australia last November when one of the crew saw a half-naked man coming out of a cave, waving his arms, and jumped into the water crying for help. The crew immediately went to help the dehydrated man who was stranded on the island for almost three days, enduring a 110 degree heat.

According to Huffington Post, director Stephen Shearman said that the castaway man, who unfortunately wasn't Tom Hanks, was on the island for almost 60 hours. Shearman said that the poor man already "said his last prayer." The director also mentioned that the man "was prepared to die and meet his maker."

Funny thing was the crew, including "River Monsters" host Jeremy Wade, joked about finding Tom Hanks on the uninhabited island. It was also after that reference that the man appeared.

"We, first of all, saw a cooler on the rocks, and then one of us spotted, there's somebody there," Wade said. He went on describing the man jumping to the water and all the while asking for something to drink.

Independent said that the stranded guy was a fisherman who was separated from his boat when he ventured off to find quality oysters. The poor guy suffered from sunstroke and wasn't able to make it out of the island. Had the "River Monsters" crew not found him, he would have died.

The "River Monsters" crew helped Tremine, the stranded fisherman, find medical care. He is now well and most likely learning from whatever mistakes he made that made him a castaway for almost three agonizing days.
