AI News & Update: Middle And Working Class To Face Job Displacement In The Near Future; Robots And AI To Take Over The Workforce

There is no doubt that most, if not all, want a convenient life. The kind of life when everything is easy and is operated by a single click of a button. This can be done through AI (artificial intelligence). That world will soon be ours. Unfortunately, what will happen to the working class if everything is operated by AI? According to reports, with the shift in technology based services the middle and working class will soon suffer job displacement.

How AI Replaces Humans In The Workforce

According to Brookings, the advancement of technologies has improved the speed, quality and cost of production. Automation technologies through robots and AI are slowly taking over the workforce due to their capacity to operate without interruption, which makes them cost-competitive compared to human workers.

The computer algorithms, for instance, can execute stock trades in a fraction of a second, much faster than any human. As these technologies become more affordable, it rises following the Great Recession where businesses are forced to operate with fewer employees.

Per BBC, among the jobs that AI will steal first are taxi drivers. There are vehicles with AI that operate without drivers. Employees working in a factory-setting are also at risk of job displacement due to AI. According to the report, China is already building robots to replace the human workforce. In fact, there is already a robot-only factory in China's Dongguan factory city.

Middle And Working Class To Face Job Displacement Due To AI

The digital evolutions have significantly altered the manufacturing processes. Governing added that the shift from manufacturing-based economy to a technology-and services-based economy will not be friendly to middle and working class.

Strait Times notes that per Marshall Brain in his book Robotic Nation (2003), the intelligent robots or AI "will eliminate a huge portion of the jobs currently held by human beings." Over 50 million jobs would be lost to the human workforce to robots and over half of the jobs in the U.S. will be operated by robots or AI.

Do you agree that AI could lead to job displacement for middle and working class? Do you still love a world operated by AI? Is AI a threat to the humans? Share your thoughts below.
