Tupac's Mother Dies Of Cardiac Arrest 20 Years After Son Gets Murdered

The mother of late rapper Tupac died on Monday night after she suffered a cardiac arrest. Afeni Shakur's death came 20 years after her son was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.

IOL reported that Afeni Shakur Davis had a heart attack at around 9:30 p.m. inside her home in Marin County, California. The 69-year-old music businesswoman was rushed to the nearby hospital in Sausalito, but was declared dead an hour after.

According to CNN, the death of Tupac's mother does not raise any red flags and possibilities that foul play could be involved. Lt. Doug Pittman mentioned in the same report an autopsy has already been scheduled. "Sheriff's Coroners Office will lead the investigation to determine exact cause & manner of Afeni Shakur's death," authorities said in a statement.

Aside from being known as the mom of Tupac, Afeni Shakur Davis also made a name after she established the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation in memory of his son. After his death in 1996, Afeni Shakur started raising money for projects which remembered Tupac.

It was added in the IOL report that Afeni Shakur's efforts led her to make the "Holler If Ya Hear Me" musical happen in 2014. This special featured all the music and masterpieces of Tupac.

Devoting herself to reliving the memory of her son is a testament of the close relationship of Afeni Shakur Davis and Tupac. The artist even wrote a song about his mom in 1995 entitled "Dear Mama."

Afeni Shakur, as per CNN, is also considered as a "well-loved and respected" member of her community. Pittman said she was involved in many causes and projects in the neighborhood.

"Miss Shakur has had an extensive background not only in the community but her involvement with so many things," the officer said. "She's been a leader, a person people followed. All that said about who she's been and where's she's at now, this is a tragic loss for this community."

RIP Afeni Shakur Davis. We're happy to know that you and Tupac are together again up there!
