7 Ways To Lower Risk Of Alzheimer’s Disease

Research has shown that the best way to lower the chances of getting Alzheimer's disease is by changing your diet. Here are seven ways to lower the risk of getting this dreaded disease.

1. Eat Berries

Berries are known to have the capability to fight memory impairment due to its high levels of biological components including anthocyanosides. Eating berries every day can provide the most benefits.

2. Caffeine Consumption

Consuming 3 cups of coffee or 200 mg of caffeine supplements a day can significantly delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease. A recent study has shown that older adults with mild memory impairment will not convert to Alzheimer's disease if they drink three cups of coffee a day.

3. Vitamin D Increase

Normal vitamin D blood levels are known to help prevent a variety of diseases, most especially Alzheimer's disease. Experts suggest that a healthy dosage of vitamin D is anything between 5,000 to 10,000 I.U. a day.

4. Plenty Of Omega-3 Fats

People with high levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) had lower rates of Alzheimer's, even after nine years of follow-up. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, tuna, trout, sardines and mackerel. Several findings show that reducing homocysteine by taking folic acid can increase cognitive functions. Around 200 mg of folic acid a day has been proven to lower the chances of impaired cognitive function.

7. Switch To A Mediterranean Diet

Two studies have proven that patients who adapted Mediterranean diets had a lower incident of Alzheimer's disease compared to people who do not follow this diet. Mediterranean diets that can lower the risk of Alzheimer's disease include vegetables, whole grains, beans, fish and plenty of olive oil.
