'Beetlejuice 2' Release Date, News & Update: Is The Film Still Happening?

"Beetlejuice" fans have been looking forward to its sequel. Previous reports suggested that "Beetlejuice 2" is in development. Unfortunately, other sources claimed that "Beetlejuice 2" is not confirmed yet. Is "Beetlejuice 2" happening?

Tim Burton Confirmed 'Beetlejuice 2'

There were rumors that "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp will be leading "Beetlejuice 2." However, "Beetlejuice" director Tim Burton declined a sequel without Michael Keaton.

"There's only one Beetlejuice, and that's Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever... I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever," Burton told IGN, teasing that "Beetlejuice 2" is near.

'Beetlejuice 2' Unconfirmed: Keaton Busy, Burton Denies

Meanwhile, NME reported that Michael Keaton cannot commit to doing "Beetlejuice 2" because he was very busy with his current projects. At the same time, Tim Burton denied that "Beetlejuice 2" is in the making.

Per the report, Burton renounced his confirmation of the sequel. His camp insisted that there are no plans for "Beetlejuice 2" because Burton is busy working with "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children."

'Beetlejuice 2' A Reboot Not A Sequel

Meanwhile, Parent Herald previously reported that "Beetlejuice 2" would be a remake, not a sequel. WhatCulture reported that the upcoming "Beetlejuice 2" will be titled "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian." Jonathan Gems, "Beetlejuice 2" screenwriter disclosed that it was Tim Burton's idea but the latter had no plans on pursuing it.

Meanwhile, according to Deadline, "Beetlejuice 2" would be a reboot with the intention of advancing the storyline of the original plot. Since the second "Beetlejuice" will be a remake, fans can't expect Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin and Winona Ryder in the film.
