'Wolverine 3' Release Date, News & Update: Hugh Jackman Movie So Violent It Will Get An 'R' Rating

“Wolverine 3” is currently in the works, which have been fueling much excitement for "X-Men" fans. Recently, there have been rumors swirling around that the third installment of the franchise, which stars Hugh Jackman as the titular character, will be the most violent that is has garnered an “R” rating.

The Most Violent 'Wolverine' Ever

Producer Simon Kinberg confirmed during a press event for “X-Men: Apocalypse” that the movie has already started filming. He said that “Wolverine 3” will be rated “R” because it will be the most radical, bold and different among the three standalone movies. The “R” rating of “Wolverine 3” has also been talked about for some time already and the makers are allegedly eyeing on the rating before “Deadpool” turned out to be a huge success.

“It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone," Kinberg said in an IGN report. "It’s just a very cool, different film.”

Fans are already excited about the recent “Wolverine 3” with an “R” rating revelation, considering how the character’s raw and brutal nature has made him one of the most popular in the comics. The new movie will most likely showcase several references from the comic books, which have always presented Wolverine in his full and unfiltered form. Hugh Jackman is expected to deliver another great performance.

Other things that the producer confirmed include the setting, which will happen in the future. The timelines set by previous “X-Men” films have made it possible for Marvel to feature a storyline in almost any era.

It is still uncertain whether Patrick Steward will reprise his role as Professor X, but Hugh Jackman will take on the lead role again as Logan/Wolverine. “Wolverine 3” with an “R” rating will expectedly delve more into the father-son relationship of the clawed X-Man and Professor X.

Kinberg told Collider that he cannot say at the moment whether Stewart will co-star in the movie, although he has been rumored to appear. The story will take place in the future and will have some western tone references. He confirmed that “Wolverine 3” will have an “R” rating and will be very “cool and different.”

“Wolverine 3” with an “R” rating will be directed by the returning James Mangold. The film is said to be Jackman’s last time to take on the role. The movie will also feature Boyd Holbrook as the main villain. Other cast members include Richard E. Grant, Eriq Lasalle and Stephen Merchant.
