LGBT News: Plea To Give 'Frozen' Queen Elsa A Girlfriend Slammed By Religious Sectors

Disney's "Frozen" Queen Elsa is being petitioned to have a girlfriend. But several religious rights group are against the idea of getting Elsa a girlfriend.

The trend started when a Twitter user named Alexis Isabel Moncada started the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend. According to Entertainment Weekly, several "Frozen" fans supported the campaign to give Elsa a girlfriend. The popular hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend has already been retweeted 1800 times and it continually increased up to this date.

Alexis Isabel pledged with Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend as she herself struggled with her individuality. It was mentioned that majority of the LGBT community pertained to "Frozen" as a metaphor for their own gender issues. Their plea to make a gay Disney princess was described as something iconic for the entire LGBT community.

"The entertainment industry has given us girls who have fallen in love with beasts, ogres who fall for humans, and even grown women who love bees, Moncada stated. "But we've never been able to see the purity in a queer relationship. Many in the LGBT community view "Frozen" as a metaphor for the experience of coming out and accepting who you are. Yet Elsa, the film's protagonist, will probably end up with a male prince or king in the upcoming "Frozen" sequel."

As the plea to give Elsa a girlfriend continues to trend, several religious groups were alarmed. The social conservative group CitizenGo released a petition for Disney not to "give in to the pressures of the liberal agenda." They also came up with their own hashtag "CharmingPrinceForElsa."

Huffington Post mentioned that part of the CitizenGo's petition is to promote "solid family values" among children. Part of their advocacy is to instill the values of a soling family to young children that represents a "natural" family.

As much as "Frozen" fans would want to give Elsa a girlfriend, Disney will most likely go with a prince charming. "Frozen 2" will start production early next year and would hit the big screen by 2018.
