This New Medical Craze Is Making People Look 10 Years Younger

A new medical craze is threatening to push Botox out of commission. Several Hollywood A-listers are now trying out a less-invasive facial procedure that makes them look 10 years younger.

Big names such as Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow have already signed up for the revolutionary anti-aging treatment. For a few thousand dollars, interested mothers can also look noticeably fairer and more radiant with each session.

Micro-Needling

According to New York Post, the new beauty trend is called micro-needling. It involves tiny needles puncturing the skin on the face to create small wounds. During the skin's natural healing process, the body releases the anti-wrinkle protein known as collagen in order to patch up the wounds. This results in a smoother, tauter and more revitalized skin.

One whole session usually lasts less than an hour and costs anywhere from $500 to $1,500. Cosmetic experts advise patients to sign up for three sessions for maximum results.

"Over the last year we've seen a lot more people asking about it in our office," said Dr. Anne Chapas of Union Square Laser Dermatology. "People are looking for a treatment that can give them some tightening and wrinkle reduction at the same time."

Pros And Cons

According to E! News, micro-needling isn't as medically corrosive as its name suggests. On the contrary, the anti-aging treatment is so relaxing that it is common for patients to nap through the entire process. Patients would not even have to worry about losing blood or developing bruises on their face during and after the procedure.

Interested mothers should bear in mind though that micro-needling isn't for everyone. The treatment could potentially spread bacteria for women who suffer from severe acne problems.

"I'm not sure if it was the fact that a bunch of needles were stuck in my face, but my skin looked tighter and plumper immediately," revealed Stephanie Lombardo, an acne sufferer from Manhattan. "By the end of my treatments the scars had faded."

Dermatologists often tell patients to apply topical creams such as Retin-A twice daily for 2 days after the procedure to advance the skin healing process.
