Amanda Bynes' mom blames marijuana use for daughter's past troubles

Amanda Bynes' mother blames marijuana for her daughter's past troubles, refuting rumors regarding the star's mental health issues.

"Amanda has no mental illness whatsoever. She has never been diagnosed as schizophrenic or bipolar," Lynn Bynes told Us Weekly, via attorney Tamar Arminak. "She is very sorry for all the hurtful tweets, statements and actions that occurred while she was under the influence of marijuana."

In May 2013, Amanda was arrested for throwing a bong out of her New York City apartment window, and then hospitalized in July for setting a neighbor's driveway on fire, among other bizarre behaviors.

"There has been much speculation about Amanda's medical condition. She has remained silent because she believed it was best to keep her mental health diagnosis private," Arminak told People. "However, she asked me to dispel certain rumors. For the record, Amanda does not have schizophrenia, nor has she ever been diagnosed with it."

Amanda, 28, returned home this past December after being treated at a Malibu facility and spending some time in the psych ward at UCLA Medical Center.

"Amanda currently is on zero medication. She's devoted to living her life as healthy as possible," her rep told Us. "Her family is closely involved with her day-to-day life, but they try to give her as much autonomy as possible."

Her lawyer went on to note that Amanda has no history of alcohol or drug abuse, and has been marijuana-free for nine months, Celebuzz reported.

The former Nickelodeon star is now getting back on track, starting with deleting all her old tweets and starting school at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Orange County, Calif.

"She is doing extremely well. She's making new friends and learning about the fashion industry," Lynn told People.

Earlier this month, Amanda celebrated her 28th birthday with her parents on a Cabo San Lucas, Mexico vacation.

"Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes," she tweeted April 5, alongside a shot of her in a neon yellow bikini.
