'Criminal Minds' Season 12 Cast, News & Update: New Season Delay To Insufficient Funds And Spinoff; Who Is The New BAU Member To Replace Derek Morgan?

CBS' "Criminal Minds" remains to be one of the most hit TV series on the network. The last season was emotional and surprising, especially when Shemar Moore decided to leave the show. Now that a new season is on the way, many are looking forward to the new BAU member who will be joining "Criminal Minds" Season 12.

'Criminal Minds' Season 12 Has A New BAU Member

There is no doubt that Shemar Moore's exit in "Criminal Minds" is surprising and unexpected. Last March, "Criminal Minds" showrunner Erica Messer teased that she is not adding a new BAU member in the last episodes of "Criminal Minds" Season 11 because it is unlikely for fans to love the character under those instances and introducing a new member is something they do when they premiere a new season.

"Rather, any new face - likely a similar, 'physical' type - will not be introduced until the fall, assuming CBS orders Season 12. It feels like something that would be natural to do in a premiere," Messer told TV Line about introducing a new BAU agent in "Criminal Minds." "Just as we did for most everybody else who has ever come in."

At the time, Messer did not mention the new actor who will be joining "Criminal Minds" Season 12. Who do you think fits best?

'Criminal Minds' Season 12 Delayed Due To Insufficient Funds And Spinoff

Meanwhile, "Criminal Minds" fans are aware that it took time before the network renewed the series. According to Yibada, it was not due to the performance of the recent season because it has high rating but rather due to the lack of budget and its spinoff, "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders."

Per the report, "Criminal Minds" is the longest running show on the network and its operational cost increases, leading to lack of funds for the network. Also, the network is already airing its spinoff, which could maybe potentially replace the parent series. But, perhaps the network realized that it is unlikely, so they renewed "Criminal Minds" for another season.
