Disney's New 'Pete's Dragon' Image Features Adorably Furry Elliott! Watch The Teaser Trailer Here! [PHOTOS + VIDEO]

Most kids can only dream of having a mystical creature for a pet, but the lucky little boy Pete in "Pete's Dragon" has a mysterious furry green friend in Elliott. Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of the 1977 classic has just released a new image and teaser trailer for "Pete's Dragon" and it looks like Elliott will be a furry dragon in the Bryce Dallas Howard movie!

Elliott Gets A Furry Makeover

The new image from "Pete's Dragon" features Oakes Fegley's Pete with his pal Elliott the dragon in the woods (via Empire). Although the new Elliott still has his trademark tuft of hair on his head, he is also decidedly much hairier in the upcoming film.

But why is Elliott covered in fur in the new "Pete's Dragon?" Director David Lowery explained that this was his idea. "When I went to pitch the movie to Disney, I said 'I want him to be a furry dragon,'" Lowery told Empire. "Pete is supposed to be cuddling up with the dragon, so let's make him furry."

David Lowery also stated that Elliott's fuzzy appearance will also set him apart from the Drogons and Smaugs of the world. "I wanted him to feel not like a 'Game of Thrones' or 'Harry Potter dragon,'" Lowery said. The result is an adorable new creature that is guaranteed to instantly capture the hearts of every child watching "Pete's Dragon." Get a closer look at the furry Elliott here.

"Pete's Dragon" follows the story of 10-year-old Pete, who is discovered by a forest ranger named Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) to have been living in the woods for 6 years. Pete reveals that he is not alone in the woods and that he has been staying with a green dragon named Elliott, and Pete's description of Elliott sounds remarkably like the dragon in the stories told by Grace's father Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford). Is Elliott real, or just a product of Pete's imagination?

"Pete's Dragon" also stars Wes Bentley and Oona Laurence. The film is scheduled for release on August 12. In the meantime, watch the exciting teaser trailer for "Pete's Dragon" below.
