Marijuana News Update: Increasing Number of Children Sent to the Emergency Room For Accidentally Consuming Marijuana Edibles

As the marijuana industry continually progress, a lurking danger-plagued parents who leave their kids unattended. Several children were hospitalized after consuming edible marijuana which looked like candies.

A marijuana edible in a form of marijuana-infused cookies sent an eight-year-old to the emergency room in Oregon. On the same situation, two kids were also sent to the ER after consuming a person's edible marijuana which looked like gummy candies.

Today Parents reported the incident, which caused an outrage among concerned parents as the marijuana legalization is starting to take its toll. Most of the victims are children, where it was mentioned that around 4,000 kids were able to consume the child-friendly looking THC-infused snacks.

"You have little kids that accidentally get into this stuff; they don't know any better," Sgt. Jim Gerhardt of the Colorado Drug Investigators Association. "Or a babysitter might give a child something out of the pantry, not realizing what it is. Those accidental issues are on the rise, and it's a big problem."

As the accidental marijuana consumption among kids continually to transcend, one of the biggest questions is still on the rise: does it have to do with the legalization? Or should the parents be blamed?

One of the best solutions provided was suggested by Gov. John Hickenlooper. By signing the House Bill 1366, he suggested that marijuana edibles should be created in a way that it is identifiable among children and adults. It should have a distinct branding to make sure that it would not entice children into mistaking it as candy as reported in Denver Post.

For parents who regularly consume marijuana edibles, it is important to keep it out of the children's reach. Such incidents are unavoidable, especially if it looks like candies.
