Parenting Tips: Why Parents Should Have Their Kids Share A Room Growing Up

Most parents usually like the idea that their kids have separate rooms, partly because they believe that it would teach their children to be more organized and disciplined. However, parenting experts are saying that it is way better for kids to stick together in one bedroom. Apparently, there are more benefits that involve their good behavior growing up if parents choose to have their children share a room.

According to Detroit Free Press, among the advantages of having your children stay in one room is the fact that siblings could be closer to each other. They would easily learn the value of sharing and their bond would also be stronger as they grow up. Psychologist Laura Markham confirmed this benefit among children who grew up staying in the same room compared to those whose parents chose the opposite.

There are also some benefits economically because as parents, you won't have to worry about getting a house with more rooms just to give your kids their own spaces. You could get a more affordable house where you could tuck your children in one room without having to worry about a large bill on a monthly basis just because they all need their separate rooms.

America is already starting to embrace this lifestyle, as statistics show that two-thirds of families in the country have children who share their room with their siblings who are 18 years old and below. Sharing a room with siblings could also help a kid with anxiety fall asleep faster. It gives them more peace of mind and they feel safer.

This practice could help in developing their communication skills such as negotiating with people and knowing the art of compromising and how to deal with conflicts when they grow up.
