'Pacific Rim 2' Release Date, News & Update: Mako Mori Has A Brother? 'Star Wars' Actor John Boyega Leads, 'Daredevil' Director Helms Guillermo Del Toro Film?

"Pacific Rim 2" will reveal that Mako Mori has a brother as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor John Boyega takes the lead role in the Guillermo Del Toro sequel. "Pacific Rim 2" casts John Boyega as the son of Stacker Pentecost, played by "James Bond" candidate Idris Elba.

According to Deadline Hollywood, "Silent Hills" director Guillermo Del Toro expressed his belief that John Boyega is a strong addition to "Pacific Rim 2." "The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world," Guillermo Del Toro said.

"Pacific Rim 2" is not the first time John Boyega takes on a solo lead. His breakthrough role in sci-fi film "Attack The Block" should put John Boyega in as good as stead as "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."

John Boyega will also be joined by Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman and Max Martini in "Pacific Rim 2." In the director's seat is Steven S. DeKnight known for his work in the "Angel" and "Daredevil" tv series.

Ars Tecnica points out that the presence of John Boyega in "Pacific Rim 2" as Stacker Pentecost's son will have to be explained. Fans of the first "Pacific Rim" would recall that a source of tension between Stacker Pentecost and adopted daughter Mako Mori is his protectiveness of her being his only child.

Mako Mori would be remembered as one of the fiercest fighters to show up in "Pacific Rim." Fans would certainly be waiting to see if John Boyega and Mako Mori will join forces in "Pacific Rim 2."

In 2014, Guillermo Del Toro promised that Mako Mori and partner Raleigh Becket will return for "Pacific Rim 2." Guillermo Del Toro did, however, qualify that "Pacific Rim 2" will feel very different from the first film.

After a few change of hands, "Pacific Rim 2" signed on "Jurassic World" co-writer Derek Connolly for the screenplay. Release date for "Pacific Rim 2" is still to be confirmed.
