Statistics Reveals That More Than 6 Million Students in the United States are 'Chronically Absent'

Recent statistics reveal that most students in the United States are "chronically absent." Due to missing out on school, it was mentioned that children who miss out even just two days a month are most likely to drop out.

NPR revealed the latest statistics acquired by the Department of Education on the first national data involving school attendance revealed that more than 5 million students are chronically absent. The data that was gathered focused on the absences which involve missing out on school for more than 15 days in a school year.

The numbers that were gathered came from the 2013 to 2014 school data from the Civil Rights Data Collection Survey. The data that was gathered included 95,000 schools in the United States alone. The numbers that were gathered revealed an alarming rate wherein it came into conclusion that more than 6 million students are absent each year.

It is without a double that even the best teachers in the school administration could not nurture the minds of the student as they tend to miss out a lot. Education Secretary John B King Jr. stated that the school administrations and the parents should be alarmed with the student's chronic absenteeism.

One of the factors that need to be addressed is the minority gap as well. There's a huge gap between the minority groups and white students in terms of school performance.

The new federal education law implemented that the student's attendance should be tracked. Though it was mentioned it is not considered as something useful, it can, however, be used to determine as to what causes the chronic absences in the future.

Parents should take a step forward in encouraging their children to attend school. Parents and guardians should be the ones that should motivate the children when it comes to focusing on their education.
