Student Stress: Why We Should Not Fuss Too Much Over Our Academics

A lot of students put so much pressure on themselves to succeed in their academics. This may be because of personal motivation or because of pressure from family. However, we must always remember to not let these expectations get the better of us and potentially ruin our education.

Many students these days spend their waking hours hunched over a laptop or a book droningly memorizing page after page and slide after slide of a lesson. These students also probably sacrifice their sleep in order to re-type essays or practice math problems, like what Alex Whitney said he did when he was a student in his article for the Huffington Post. Luckily, school does not always have to be this stressful of an experience.

We are all afraid of not being good enough or not meeting expectations, but overworking ourselves can lead to much worse in the long run. We may experience what is known as burn out and as a result lose focus or interest while studying. What's worse is that this may also lead to us losing the desire to study or to continue pursuing an education altogether.

We must remember to find stress relievers in order to stop ourselves from going insane. Luckily, Kaplan Test Prep has provided some pretty useful tips to help us reduce some stress.

The first is to engage in some physical activity in order to sweat out some of the tension that has accumulated. Physical activity also helps release endorphins, which make us feel much better about ourselves. Getting out of the house and meeting up with friends is another recommended method of stress reduction.

Writing is another way by which stress can be relieved. But if that's not up your ally, divulging in your other hobbies can also help a lot. Relaxing activities such as yoga are a big help as well. Finally, we must all remember that we just need to take a deep breath from time to time.
