Food Saftey Alert: Toodler Choked On Popcorn Ended Up on Life Support

A two year old toddler was put on life support after choking on a popcorn. Her parents are tangled in a court battle as they fight for her recovery.

The once bubbly two year old Miranda Lawson is now hooked on life support after choking on a popcorn during their family gathering last May 11. A popcorn kernel blocked her air way, which caused her to have a cardiac arrest. Her father, Patrick Lawson managed to keep her alive as he performed CPR until the medics arrived as reported by Chron.

As the days moved forward, Miranda’s condition didn’t seem to improve as doctors noted that she is already brain dead. The doctors from VCU Medical Center stated that they are already certain that Miranda’s recovery is close to impossible stating that only her heart and lungs are working.

The doctors then stated that they would want to perform a test to confirm Miranda’s brain dead status, but her parents took matters into court as they refused stating that it might harm their two year old. The doctors then rebutted stating that the test is totally harmless, but the parents are still hopeful that their toddler will eventually recover.

“We feel that God has told us that it's his will that she is going to awaken," Patrick said. "She has something to do in this world."

NBC 12 released a report last month highlighting Patrick Lawson’s plea to keep his daughter on life support after the doctors suggest that they would soon pull the plug. Though the doctors noted that the toddlers chances on recovery is very slim, Patrick mentioned that her daughter seem to responds when she would hear her family’s voice.

“Everything I read says that's not the end,” Patrick told NBC. When I walk into the room and talk to her, her blood pressure goes up, until I come over and tell her, everything's okay that daddy's just trying to keep her safe,” he says emotionally.
If you were in the family’s shoes, would you take the doctor’s advice? Or would you give your daughter a chance to survive despite the slim possibility? Do let us know through the comment section below.
