A good sleeping habit is what every child needs in order to grow up healthy and fit. Parents should be aware of the right amount of time that their child needs to get when it comes to getting a good sleep at night and how it varies with the number of hours that adults should have. This issue has been quite the problem of most parents since kids are usually hyperactive, especially toddlers.

Parents would have to make an effort to put their kids to sleep at night and make sure they have enough to it that would make them energized and ready for the next day. The question is, how many hours of sleep does your child really needs to be called healthy? In an article published by The Huffington Post, the American Academy of Pediatrics released an information about the standard amount of sleep that kids from different stages should have. Newly born babies must have at least 12 to 16 hours of sleep a day until they have reached their first year of age.

Babies who are a year old up to their second year of age must have a total sleep of at least 11 to 14 hours a day. This will go down to 10 to 13 hours, as soon as the child reaches the age of 3 to 5. Nine to twelve hours of sleep is expected to kids who are 6 years old up to when they are 12. And finally, 8 to 10 hours of sleep once they hit teen years.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, these numbers are important for parents to know in order for their child to grow healthy and strong. Children who get enough sleep during their childhood years would be able to keep that habit when they get old. As an adult, do you think you had enough sleep growing up?
