However, a new claim has recently emerged saying Depp will remain as the main character of the film.

Ever since the inception of the Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise in 2003, 53-year-old actor Johnny Depp has taken the lead role as Capt. Jack Sparrow. In fact, Depp has been reportedly responsible for the success of the franchise in the box-office but now his charm and worth are questioned following the halfhearted acceptance of his film, "The Lone Ranger," three years ago.

According to Movie News Guide, Disney decided to focus again on Depp's character, Jack Sparrow, in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales." Thanks to all diehard Depp fans, Disney and Orlando Bloom conceded to make Sparrow as the main focus of the upcoming film because they have been clamoring for it, with some fans bringing up the fact that Depp was responsible for the success of the "Pirates" franchise.

'Pirates Of The Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales' No Longer A Sequel?

Meanwhile, Parent Herald has previously reported that the upcoming "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will not be a sequel but a reboot. The news came after Bloom confirmed that Disney has planned to concentrate more on Will Turner's relationship with his son.

"Basically they want to reboot the whole franchise, I think, and do something with me and the relationship with my son," Bloom told IGN in an interview in December 2014.

In "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales," Depp and Bloom will be joined by newcomers Kaya Scodelario as Carina Smyth, Brenton Thwaites as Henry Turner and Javier Bardem as the villain Captain Salazar while Geoffrey Rush will reprise his role as Captain Barbossa. As for the release date, the fifth installment of the "Pirates" franchise will sail on theaters on May 26, 2017.
