Zika and Pregnancy: Almost 4 Million Pregnant Women ShouldUndergo Zika Assessment, CDC suggests

There is an average of 3.9 Million pregnancy in the U.S. and CDC suggests that all of the pregnant women should undergo an assessment to be able to regulate the spreading of Zika virus.

Inspite of the warnings from CDC to avoid going to places with Zika outbreaks since January, the number of cases still rise, including in Miami. Such outbreak in this state is now getting out of hand hence CDC decided to light the red light and came up with the suggestion to force pregnant women to undergo assessment.

14 people in Wynwood neighborhood in Miami, as reported by US Today, have been infected with Zika and more are expected because of the local mosquitoes spreading the Zika virus. Although pregnant women do not necessarily need to best tested for Zika, health care providers need to know important information such as the recent travel along with the details of any travel by her sexual partner. In case of Zika infection, pregnant women will experience symptoms that include fever and rash, headaches, muscle and joint pain, red eyes, and pain behind the eyes.

Zika virus is mostly spread by mosquito bites but everyone contract it since it can be transmitted through sex. Wearing long sleeves and insect repellant can help everyone especially the pregnancy women from mosquitoes carrying Zika virus. It is important though to consider if insect repellants are safe for use during pregnancy. It is best to ask the doctor for particular suggestions on this matter.

Jeffrey Klausner, a professor of medicine and public health at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, said that "Condom use during pregnancy will also reduce the risk of common STDs." However, there is still no assurance that the Zika virus will die soon. The transmission can be avoided but the question is until when?

Zika is now up in 30 states and several continents such as Africa, Asia, and Pacific Islands. If Zika babies will continually be born, it will be hard for many to see heartbreaking situations of having microcephaly, small brains, enfeebled body, and weak immune system. The unborn babies should be spared. And so everyone hopes that Zika virus will finally be conquered.
