PS4 Neo Release Date, Price & Latest News: Sony's Official Announcement On Higher End Console Happens September

Sony is reportedly going to unveil the details to the PS4 Neo this September. Furthermore, a special event will be mounted in New York in line with its reveal. It will be a lot like when the company announced the PS4 in 2013.

The higher-end console PS4 Neo, also called the PS4.5, PS4.5 Neo and the PS4K, was tipped off early this year in the reports. In the last few months, suppliers, game developers and retailers have also hinted that PS4 Neo does exist at Sony, despite the company's silence.

News of the PS4 Neo official announcement, which specifically happens Sept. 7, was confirmed by French site Gameblog. The outlet also stated that Sony is choosing to do its own event in New York as Nintendo could be unveiling the NX at the Tokyo Game Show, which is also happening in September.

According to Vice, the September unveiling of the PS4 Neo has been described as a "technical showcase," and preparations are still underway at Sony. Developers should also be getting hold of the last of its development kit around the time of the official PS4 Neo announcement.

At the E3 event in June, where the PS4 Neo was a no-show, Sony defended that it had wanted to ensure that its big reveal of the upgraded console didn't shortchange eager gamers. It's why the company chose to hold back PS4 Neo announcements until they have a fully functional and capable unit to show off. However, Sony did finally acknowledge at the E3 that the higher end console is indeed in the works at the company.

The PS4 Neo, while deemed more powerful in performance than the current generation console, is meant to work side by side with the PS4. PS4 Neo is supposed to complement the existing unit and not overshadow or replace it.

Games that can run in the PS4 are also expected to work on the PS4 Neo. Price points and other details should also be announced during the September unveiling. Stay tuned!
