Raising Awareness on Immunization in the Month of August

Not all countries have "National Immunization Awareness Month". Vaccination matters a lot for Americans, hence there is a whole month given to raise awareness about this.

In this country, Vaccines serve as a requirement for school entry as it helps protect the health of children and the whole school and community. Vaccines are also helping the country save money on health services since the young ones get protected up until they become adults, and they may also need further vaccinations during that time.

Some serious diseases that protect kids through vaccination are flu (influenza), mumps, chickenpox, hepatitis, meningitis, measles, whooping cough (pertussis) and polio. There are some vaccinations needed for Preteens, teens and adults, according to Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH).

Americans wish that the vaccines provided today already include that which is needed to fight Zika virus. Nonetheless, this hope is gradually coming true. The journal Science has recently presented three types of vaccines  to be used to block Zika virus. These vaccines worked on monkeys, now the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) tried to inject it to two human volunteers for the clinical trial of DNA-based Zika vaccine. If it works perfectly, then more volunteers from ages 35 to 80 will be given the vaccination, where pregnant women will be the priority.

No matter the disease, each American should be responsible with having the vaccination of oneself completed. This will give a holistic effect in life from the individual to the community benefits, there are great things to acquire. With a healthy life and community, one can maximize life.

In case you, your kids, or someone you know has not yet gone through vaccination, make sure that you let him or her know this: KDPH and other health offices are supporting this campaign especially this month to give you protection and a promise to enjoy life at its best with a healthy body that is free from diseases.
